Get Your Heating System Ready For The Change Of Seasons

Fall Tune-up Time - Call Dixie
The popular mantra “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” does not apply to the HVAC industry.
Regular maintenance is crucial to keep your home comfort system in tip-top shape to perform effectively and efficiently as you heat and cool your home. Even though you believe your heating and cooling systems may be running just fine, they still require regular maintenance. Many HVAC repairs can be detected – or even eliminated – before they become major, expensive problems. This is especially important with the change of the seasons, when your heating system requires special maintenance.
Your air conditioning system has worked hard the past several months to keep you comfortable during the hot, steamy summer. Now that the majority of the summer weather is in our rearview mirror, it’s time to get your home’s heating and cooling system ready for fall and winter. There are a few things you can do yourself, such as inspect, clean, or change air filters once a month. A dirty filter can increase energy costs and damage your HVAC equipment, leading to system breakdown and shortened life expectancy. You can also visually inspect your system for any noticeable signs of wear and tear or external damage.
Once you do that, it’s time to call an HVAC service professional to perform fall maintenance. A heating tune-up should include:

  • Check thermostat settings to ensure your system keeps you comfortable and runs when you want it to.
  • Tighten all electrical connections and measure voltage and current on appliance motors. Faulty electrical connections can cause system damage and create unsafe operating conditions.
  • Lubricate all moving parts. Parts that lack lubrication cause friction in motors and increases the amount of electricity you use.
  • Check all gas (or oil) connections, gas pressure, burner combustion and heat exchanger. Improperly operating gas or oil connections are a fire hazard and can contribute to health problems. A dirty burner or cracked heat exchanger causes improper burner operation. Either can cause the equipment to operate less safely and efficiently.

Stay ahead of the game, keep your HVAC system happy and call Dixie today for a complete fall inspection and tune-up.
