Trying to stay afloat in a sea of never-ending utility bills can be frustrating. Sometimes it feels like you are simply treading water and never making progress. While we can never make those utility bills disappear, Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air can offer some advice to keep you from sinking, while avoiding costly repairs.
The most effective thing you can do is schedule regular a/c maintenance and tune-ups. Maintenance will keep your cooling and heating system running efficiently and is the best way to reduce utility bills while extending the life of your system. One component of routine maintenance is changing and/or cleaning your air filters each month, which results in better air flow enhanced air quality. Here are a few other energy-saving tips:
- Seal your house. Cracks and gaps around windows and doors let an incredible amount of air out (or in) and increase your system’s workload.
- Don’t cool your empty house like you would when you are home. This is where a programmable thermostat comes in handy. If you don’t have one make sure you turn up your thermostat when you are leaving.
- Keep a lid on the heat by closing curtains and blinds during the brightest, hottest parts of the day. Uncovered windows act as heat-generating magnifying glasses.
- Identify problem rooms that are either too hot or too cold when compared to other rooms. Cranking up the A/C trying to make these uncomfortable rooms comfortable can cause wear and tear on your system.
