COVID-19 and beyond: We’re all in this together

dixie and covid 19

At Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air, we understand that many aspects of our lives have been affected by COVID-19. Whether that’s knowing someone who’s sick, being laid off from your job, or suddenly learning how to be an elementary school teacher for your kids, we know that staying at home is often not as easy as it may sound.
Over the last few weeks, it feels like our world continues to flip upside-down as we try and settle into this current state of “stay-at-home” orders and self-quarantine.
Whether it’s a season of self-quarantine or not, our goal is always for you to be safe and comfortable in your home. If your home needs electrical, plumbing, or HVAC repair, we want to assure you that we are doing our part to provide excellent service to you while protecting you and your family from the spread of germs.

Each member of our team here at Dixie is a member of your community first, and an employee of a business second. We genuinely care about the health and well-being of our family, friends, neighbors, local businesses, and community. It’s our drive and love for our community that drives us in continuing to do all that we can and be responsible and caring as we visit your homes.

Doing our part now, being a good neighbor always

Dixie’s COVID-19 precautions

At Dixie, the health and safety of our team and our customers is our highest priority. Since March, our technician team has been taking extra sanitation measures to protect both themselves and those they come in contact with during home visits.
Our service technicians get their temperature checked every morning and stay home if they feel sick. Additionally, we’ve put wash stations in every service van so technicians can wash their hands before and after every home visit. Our service technicians also wear disposable  gloves, new shoe-covering booties, clean uniforms, and (upon request) face masks when they go into a home.
When Dixie comes to service your home, we interact at the level that our customers feel comfortable. We always maintain a safe social distance from our customers, and we send you the bill, receipt, and notes of your service visit electronically. We desire to protect our team as well as the other homes we visit, so we also ask our customers if they’ve come in contact with COVID-19 before our visit and respond accordingly. While we cherish building relationships with our clients, our goal during this time is to maintain a zero physical contact boundary to protect you and your family.

Our at-home maintenance recommendations

With your home’s electrical, plumbing, and air systems receiving more attention with more people at home, it’s possible that these systems are being strained and could soon require repair. As you continue to spend most of your days at home, follow these simple tips for at-home maintenance that can help reduce the strain being placed on your plumbing pipes, electrical power, and HVAC unit.

HVAC

Clean your air filters.

During this time of year, your air filters are continually collecting pollen, dust, and other allergens. Changing your air filters allows for your A/C unit to run more smoothly and without as much energy.
Turn your A/C unit to the “Fan” setting to circulate airflow.
If your unit isn’t running very often, it’s a good idea to allow the fan to circulate air in your home. In the “Fan” setting, air will come through the filter and bring fresh air into your home.
Consider your indoor air quality.
As you spend more and more time indoors, indoor air quality products, such as air purifiers, can help purify the air in your home and keep you from getting allergies and other illnesses. There are also other simple things you can do at home to improve indoor air quality.

Electrical

Conserve energy.

With more people in your home, more power is being used. Conserve energy by turning off lights and unplugging electronics when they aren’t in use.
Consider getting surge protection.
Again, more people at home means more items plugged into outlets. To fully protect your electronics from an electrical surge, purchasing a surge protector may be the safest option.

Plumbing

Clean your drains.

A clogged drain can totally disrupt the pattern of everyday life. Take the time to clean out your faucets and sinks to protect from a clogged drain.
Conserve water.
Shortening your showers and collecting rainfall for watering your plants are two simple ways to conserve water at home. Additionally, check your faucets for leaks.

Let Dixie help you!
