What To Do If Your AC Stops Working Suddenly

What To Do If Your AC Stops Working Suddenly

Being without air conditioning during an Alabama summer is not an option. Besides being uncomfortable, for some, it can be quite dangerous. If your air conditioning (AC) suddenly stops working, there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the issue, but many residents of the Montgomery and Auburn-Opelika areas already know: If you need an AC repair, just call Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air and it’s done

One of the first possible issues to check when you suddenly have no AC, is the thermostat. Ensure that the thermostat is set to the correct temperature and is functioning correctly. Increase the temperature a little bit and listen for the unit to turn on. If it doesn’t, the issue is likely something else within the AC system; or perhaps the batteries in the thermostat just need to be replaced.

Another simple check is the power supply to the AC unit. If a fuse has blown or the circuit breaker is tripped, power is no longer able to get to the unit. Simply replace the fuse or reset the breaker. However, if this is a recurring issue or if you still have no AC, contact Dixie to schedule one of their skilled electricians to inspect and repair the electrical system.

Another common cause of an AC that suddenly stops working are dirty air filters. If the filter is clogged with dust or debris, clean or replace it immediately. Continuing to operate your AC when the filter is dirty causes the unit to work harder and much less efficiently.

When your AC suddenly stops working, the issue could be with your outdoor condenser unit. A common problem outdoors is the unit gets blocked with debris or plantings. It’s very important to keep plants and shrubs trimmed around the unit and to clean up leaves and other yard debris before they have a chance to do harm to your AC system.

If the AC unit is low on refrigerant or if the refrigerant is leaking, your AC may quickly stop working without warning. Handling refrigerants should always be done by a professional. Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air can successfully complete any AC repair you need including proper handling of refrigerant leaks.

Trying to fix it on your own may cause further damage and can be dangerous if you don’t have the necessary knowledge and skills. It’s always best to call Dixie for peace of mind knowing your AC repair will be done correctly, efficiently and quickly.
