World Plumbing Day

Happy World Plumbing Day!

Every year on March 11th, we celebrate the importance of plumbing and the role it plays in keeping our world a healthy place. In 2010, the World Plumbing Council decided to make March 11th of every year World Plumbing Day, and it is now internationally recognized.
The World Plumbing Council is an international organization that aims to expand and promote the image and standards of the plumbing industry around the world. Their mission statement reads, “To promote the role of plumbing in improving public health and safeguarding the environment, by uniting the World Plumbing Industry, for the benefit of all.”
In honor of today, here are some fun plumbing facts!

  • Did you know that the first flushing toilet was invented by a man named John Harrington in 1596? This is where the nickname “The John” came from!
  • Did you know that the name Plumber originally came from the Latin word “Plumbum,” which means lead?
  • Albert Einstein publicly announced that if he could live his life over again, he would become a plumber! After this announcement, he was named an honorary member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union.
