Prevent costly plumbing problems with our expert tips. There are a lot of things that can ruin your day:
- Accident turns 30-minute commute into 2 hours
- Boss yells at you and says it’s no excuse for being late
- Spouse then calls to tell you your child’s principal wants an urgent meeting
But Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air believes nothing can ruin a day more quickly than a plumbing problem. With that in mind, our licensed local plumbers have come up with a list of 5 plumbing sins that can result in you needing Dixie’s plumbing services.
5 Plumbing Problems “Sins” List:
-
Drilling, driving, or screwing:
Never use a power drill, nails, or screws unless you’re absolutely sure there is no hidden water supply or drain pipes. The damage you cause behind a wall could be instantly obvious, as in a gush of water, because of a punctured pressurized pipe. Or maybe it will be a slow leak you don’t notice for days, weeks, or even months. In either case, the plumbing repair bill could make that do-it-yourself project seem pretty expensive.
-
Pouring grease down the kitchen sink:
All forms of fat are a mortal enemy of proper drainage. As the oils and fats harden, they do a great job of blocking drains and forcing plumbing repairs. In some cases, the fats can even block the sewer pipe out on the street causing backups for other homes in the neighborhood. Find a better way to dispose of those fatty wastes.
-
Overloading the garbage disposal:
Some people like to treat their garbage disposal like a commercial stump grinder. Bad mistake. Disposals are meant to handle a moderate amount of food waste. Some foods can still block your drains after going through the grinder and will require a drain cleaning.
-
Flushing garbage down the toilet:
The pipe leading from your toilet to the main drain pipe is actually quite small. Flushing garbage is a recipe for disaster. You can even clog the main drain which causes backups throughout the house.
-
Chemicals in your septic tank:
Septic systems rely on living bacteria to break down the waste material. Using household cleaners and chemicals like bleach and certain types of drain cleaners can kill the bacteria. Paint and anti-bacterial soap can also damage the bacteria.
This is in no way a complete list, but if you avoid those common plumbing problems “sins”, the chances of having to call for an emergency plumber are lessened. If you combine it with routine inspections by your plumbing expert in Montgomery and Auburn, AL, you’ll be doing even better. Just remember our slogan, “Call Dixie and it’s Done.”
