Fujitsu and Daikin Mini-splits To The Rescue
There’s nothing like it this time of year; sitting down to watch your favorite team in a big football game in that brand new man cave you added to your home. All dressed up with long underwear in your team’s colors, a parka with the team logo, and of course, the stocking cap pulled down over your ears.
Sound ridiculous? Well, it’s really not. Whether it’s a man cave, a studio for that budding artist, or a game room for the kids (and adults who don’t want to grow up), it’s not going to be much fun if you’re shivering or sweating.
Many times those bonus rooms are added in areas that aren’t adequately heated or cooled: a garage, an unfinished basement, an attic, or a screened in porch. The cost of adding ductwork connected to your current HVAC system can be prohibitive.
There’s an answer to that problem and it goes by many different names; including mini-split, mini-split inverter or ductless heat pump. No matter the name, they are an efficient way to heat and cool a room or area with NO ductwork required.
The main advantages of Fujitsu and Daikin mini splits are their small size and the option for zoning, or heating and cooling individual rooms. Many models can have as many as four indoor air-handling units (for four zones or rooms) connected to one outdoor unit.
Another advantage is the ease of installation. The hookup between the indoor and outdoor units generally requires just a three-inch hole through the wall. The indoor unit can be as much as 50 feet away from the outdoor unit. That means you can often hide the condenser unit in a discreet location.
One reason mini-split systems are so efficient is the lack of ductwork. As much as 30% of your energy consumption is wasted because of duct loss, losing hot or cold air through the holes and connections in existing ducts. That simply doesn’t happen with a ductless mini-split unit. All of the hot or cold air goes to the room or area you want to heat or cool. In fact, some of these units are so efficient they qualify for federal tax credits, but remember they could expire at the end of 2016 if congress doesn’t renew them.
With your new ductless heat pump the only hot things in your mancave will be your chicken wings and your significant other. The only cold thing will be your favorite beverage. So go crazy and lose the long johns while enjoying your new bonus room.
All you have to do is call your friends at Dixie. You will be pleasantly surprised at how easy and affordable it is to enjoy climate controlled comfort in your converted attic, porch, garage, or basement with a new Fujitsu and Daikin mini split system.
