Frequently Asked Questions
At Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air, it’s our goal to solve all of your home service needs. Here we’ve collected some of the most frequently asked questions to help you feel more prepared.
For the best commercial and residential plumbing, HVAC, and electrical services in the Montgomery, AL area, call Dixie and it’s done!
No. The simple answer is that we are electricians, and they are a power company. Our company was founded in Montgomery, Alabama in 1908, while Dixie Electric Co. was founded in Union Springs in the 1930s. At that time, no one realized that Montgomery would grow far enough east that this would present a problem. If you need an electrician or plumber, call us or schedule an appointment online. If you need to report a power outage to the power company and they serve your area instead of Alabama Power Company, call Dixie Electric Cooperative at (888) 349-4332.
We do not provide free estimates for our services except for air conditioning installations. At Dixie, we invest in our technicians and we value their time, so we charge a dispatch fee, also known as a service call fee, every time they make a visit. We are always upfront about our dispatch fee because we feel it is a small price to pay to ensure you are getting a qualified, honest technician in your home. Our technicians are highly skilled, expertly trained, and provide the best service in our community, if not in the country. The time they take to carefully review your electrical, plumbing, or HVAC need is well worth the dispatch fee — we guarantee it! To discuss pricing, give us a call at 334-232-0236.
You can! You can compare our total price with their total price if they will even give you one. (Chances are they will only give you an estimate.) What would you rather have: the final cost or a rough estimate?
The question you should be asking is, “why is theirs so low?” What do their prices say about their company? Are they cutting corners on the work in order to make up for their low cost? We are always upfront with our pricing, and there will be no surprise “additional work costs” added in at the end. Are they using inferior products? We only use top-of-the-line materials since they are the most reliable. When you have worked more than 100 years to build a reputation based on integrity and excellent service, cheaping out on products would just simply not be smart. Are they using unskilled, untrained, or unlicensed labor? We hire the best, most professional technicians. We train our technicians on a daily basis to make sure they offer you the best possible service. Our technicians are ALL drug–tested and background–checked for your peace–of–mind. If they do offer a warranty, how do you know they will still be in business to honor it? Dixie is a leading provider of home services in the Central Alabama area. We have been in business for over 100 years, and we are not going anywhere overnight. Everyone wants to save, but beware: bargain hunting on major home repairs can cost you more money in the long run.
Routine maintenance is important if you want to keep your systems running efficiently all year long. You’ll gain peace of mind, save big on your energy bill, reduce the likelihood of breakdowns, and catch small problems before they become large ones.
Your HVAC system benefits from regular maintenance. Schedule a tune-up with Dixie today and we’ll inspect and clean coils, clear out debris, refill refrigerant, check for leaks, and more. During one of our routine plumbing maintenance visits, we’ll test your water pressure, check for water damage, clean drains, clear out clogs, and stop corrosion. In addition, electrical preventative maintenance keeps your home safe, prevents overheating, and extends the lifespan of your wiring. We also offer fire inspections and home safety inspections.
All this and more is included in the Dixie Cares Maintenance Plan to help you stay on track. In addition to priority service, Dixie Cares Plan members also receive a 15% savings on electric, plumbing, air conditioning, or heating repairs. Give us a call at 334-232-0236 to get started. No, Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air is not a franchise. Dixie has been a local Alabama family-owned and operated company for over 100 years. We know how important your family’s safety and comfort is, and we do what it takes to treat your family just like ours.
Most of the time, we send one technician, but more can be dispatched for big jobs if necessary. We will always meet the need, whatever it may be. Additionally, all of our technicians are background checked and drug tested, and they share our core commitments to courtesy, cleanliness, and client satisfaction.
At Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air, we know that your time is a precious commodity. That’s why we offer 24-hour emergency service. We do our very best to get a technician to your house as quickly as possible. From our central Alabama location, we can quickly reach Montgomery, Auburn-Opelika, Wetumpka, Pike Road, Prattville, and surrounding areas. Our technicians arrive in a truck with thousands of parts — our own “warehouse on wheels!” This saves time and ensures that when the technician arrives, it is highly likely he will have the parts needed for the call, no matter what issue we discover.
We make every effort to achieve same-day resolution for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical issues and we offer 24/7 emergency response. Often, we can fix the problem very quickly the same day you contact us. If we cannot, we immediately schedule a follow-up appointment. However, some problems require a city or county permit, an inspection, or the power company to do work, and we have to work with their schedules. Other complex repairs or jobs may require more time due to their nature. But with Dixie’s upfront pricing, one thing is guaranteed: no surprises!
We have decided to continue offering you our highest level of service at the lowest prices possible by collecting at the time of service. In order to make the payment process convenient for you, we offer a variety of payment methods. Our technicians accept cash, check or any major credit card, and we also offer to finance.
Remember, we offer 100% satisfaction with our service, so we will always make you happy and make sure you are satisfied with the service you’ve received for your money.
We recommend a routine maintenance schedule of HVAC tune-ups twice a year. (One in spring to prepare your AC for summer, and one in fall to prepare your heating for winter.) If you notice any spikes in your energy bill, call us ASAP to address the underlying issue.
Friendly reminder: Air filters should be changed out every month and a half on average, and should never be left in longer than three months.
