A New Year’s Resolution That’s A Keeper

The New Year is here and filled with many resolutions made with good intention. Let’s start with the old standby: I resolve to lose weight. The typical list of New Year’s resolutions goes on from there: exercise more, eat healthy, save more money, don’t complain about my boss, don’t yell at my husband for watching too much sports on TV, or watch less sports on TV so I can spend more time with my wife.
Those are all admirable things. This year, how about also resolving to make your home more efficient and safer for an improved quality of life?
The best way to accomplish this is to make a checklist:

  • Check smoke detectors and change batteries if it’s been a while.
  • If you don’t have low-level carbon monoxide alarms, install them or ask our technician to install them for you. Learn the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning because the life you save may be your own or that of a loved one.
  • By the way, how is the air quality in your house? Your answer likely is “I don’t know.” Well, Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air can give you answers to that question by testing your indoor air quality. Testing can identify indoor air pollution like mold, dust and pollutants, and help determine if your ductwork needs to be cleaned.

Dixie can also install air purification systems or whole house humidifiers to make the air you breathe cleaner and help make you and your family healthier.
Now that your home is safer, let’s make it more efficient. An easy way to do that is with a new Wi-Fi enabled thermostat. It’s like a programmable thermostat on steroids. It allows you to control your heating and cooling system using your mobile device.
Say you left home for two weeks during the holidays. Of course, you turned the heat way down to save money. On your way home you use your smartphone to turn the heat up on that wifi programmable thermostat so your home will be nice and toasty when you arrive. Or if you left home in a hurry and forgot to turn the heat down, you can take care of that as well.
You know what else that wifi thermostat will give you? Peace of mind. If you’re out of town when that winter storm hits you can increase the temperature to compensate for the freezing temperatures.
Talk with your technician during your appointment or call our office to find out which programmable wifi thermostat is compatible with your system and how it can make it more efficient and save you money in the long run.
And one final suggestion, if you’re going to go with either one of those TV sports resolutions, you might want to wait until AFTER the Super Bowl. Call Dixie, and it’s done!
