What to Do Before Calling for Furnace Repair

furnace repair from Dixie

Expect the best and prepare for the worst. It’s a common saying that applies to many situations, one of when your furnace isn’t working properly or at all, the first response may be to pick up the phone and call for a furnace repair from a dependable company like Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air.

Dixie is available and willing to help with any furnace issue you may have, but you may wish to try these DIY furnace repair tips and tricks before you call.

  1. Make sure the furnace on/off switch is set to the on position.
  2. Check your thermostat to be sure it didn’t get set to the off position. If it’s on, turn it down below the temperature showing on the display then turn it up 5 degrees above the current setting. Listen for the furnace to come on. You should also verify that the temperature setting you want is what’s showing on the display.
  3. Change your air filter. Dirty filters are harmful to your furnace and can cause it to malfunction. One way to check it is to shine a flashlight up to it. If you can’t see through the filter, change it.
  4. If your furnace is powered by gas, check to make sure the pilot light is lit. If not, you can light it with a grill igniter or with a long fireplace match.
  5. Check that air is flowing freely through the air intake vent. If necessary, remove any debris that may be in the way.
  6. Stand next to the furnace when it comes on and check that the blower motor also comes on. Also make sure warm air is coming from the air vents.

If there are any issues with these 6 items, call Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air right away to schedule a furnace repair. Dixie hires highly trained technicians and we also provide ongoing training to ensure they can handle any furnace repair you may need.
