Will Hydrojetting Work To Clear Tree Roots from Drain Line?

The answer to that question is a definite yes, but we’ll get to that a bit later because we are kind of putting the proverbial cart before the horse.
They are the pride and joy at your Auburn, Opelika, or Montgomery, AL home, stately trees and vibrant bushes and shrubs. You love your landscaping. But behind the beauty, or more correctly underneath, danger could be lurking. Tree roots or roots from the shrubs could be in the process of clogging up the drainpipe carrying plumbing waste away from your home.

Warning Signs

One of the keys is learning to recognize what’s happening. If you are experiencing:

  • Frequent drain clogs
  • Odd sounds from a toilet
  • Slow-moving drains
  • Drains overflowing

These can all be signs you have a tree root problem. As they invade the sewer pipe, they trap more and more of the waste material from your home. The eventual result is a complete blockage and potentially a damaging and messy sewage backup into your home.

Dixie to the Rescue

The first step for Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air is to determine where the blockage is and use a sewer machine to try and clear the blockage. There are times when this isn’t enough to fix the problem. In those situations we have a high-tech solution waiting in the wings.

Bring in the Big Dog

That might be a little overly dramatic but what we are talking about is a new hydrojetter Dixie recently purchased. If you are not familiar with the name, think of a hydrojetter as a sophisticated pressure washer, but many times more powerful. A hose is inserted into the drainpipe with the high-pressure nozzle on the end and the hydrojetting starts. And yes, the pressure is so high the jets of water can actually cut through the tree roots. The roots and whatever else is causing the blockage, are pushed down the pipe and into the community sewer system or into your septic tank.

Wait, There’s More

Another reason hydrojetting is so effective is it also cleans the interior of the pipe. Augers and snakes can sometimes remove blockages as part of drain cleaning, but they always leave debris and residue on the pipe walls. The result is the whole process can start over again in a relatively short amount of time. After using the hydrojetter, a video camera is fed into the drainpipe to confirm the blockage is gone and the inside of the pipe is smooth as a baby’s bottom.
